How to remove IM history

In providing such facilities as chat history and data storage, instant messengers are always keen. But what can be done if the IM history itself is a menace? If one wishes to delete the IM history in messengers either to prevent the bogging down of the system with unnecessary files or to maintain the privacy, then the following steps can be followed for the appropriate instant messengers.
Remove IM history in Yahoo! Messenger
Yahoo! Messenger keeps track of all chats one send or receive through the messenger, unless the user has disabled the ‘Save chats’ option in messenger. If the chat history is enabled, then it can be removed by opening the yahoo messenger’s Preferences option. From the left pane, click archives to view the complete chat history. At the bottom, an option called’ Clear archive’ clears the history. To prevent future chats from being saved disable the ‘Save chats’ option. To locate the chats in your PC, search the C-drive and find the file and remove the files manually.
Remove IM history in Google talk
Chats conducted in Google talk can be customized through the chat options in Gmail. To prevent Gtalk from saving your chats, you can disable the ‘Save chat history’ option in the Gmail chat settings. To keep the other participant from saving the chats too, ‘Go off the record’ option must be selected. Already recorded chats can be accessed and deleted through Gmail.
Remove IM history in Skype
To delete chat history in skype, visit the ‘Clear all history settings’ and click the ‘Tools’ option. In ‘Tools’, select Application history and enable the ‘Delete skype chat history’ option. Apply changes.
Remove IM history in Windows Live/MSN messenger
To delete the IM history of chats with a particular participant, double-click the contact and open the conversation to be removed through the ‘View conversation history’ option. In the menu, select ‘Erase history’ option.
Remove IM history in AOL messenger
AOL messenger saves all conversations of the users. To remove the IM history, select settings in the AOL messenger’s edit menu. Select ‘IM logging’ and click ‘Delete log files’ to delete all message history. To prevent the logging of chats, uncheck the check-boxes Log IMs.
Remove IM history in Digsby
Digsby is an application which incorporates services from other messengers like Yahoo!, MSN, Google etc. To remove IM history, the conversation folder should be located in the PC so that the chats can be identified by date and deleted.
Remove IM history in Trillian
To remove the chats, select the particular contact and click the ‘History’ tab. Chats can also be removed by locating them within the system’s program files.
